24 Oct Club Brugge Upgrade Their Performance Tracking With STATSports
2023/24 Belgian champions, Club Brugge KV, have agreed a multi-year deal to use STATSports as their official GPS performance tracking partner.
As one of the most successful clubs in Belgium, Club Brugge have won five of the last seven Belgian Pro League titles and will go in search of their 20th league title this season.
The 2024/25 season marks the start of a new era under head coach Nicky Hayen, who led them to glory as interim manager from March playing an exciting, direct attacking brand of football.
Approved by FIFA as the gold-standard in performance tracking technology, STATSports have proven to be the most trusted performance-tracking system in sport. Top clubs across the world of football such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, PSG, and Juventus have all chosen STATSports to elevate their performance tracking.
Commenting on the partnership, Eddie Robb, Club Brugge’s first team physical coach, said:
“Partnering with STATSports was a no-brainer. Their technology is the best in the industry. Data accuracy, reliability, and the user-friendly nature of the product means that we can trust in the data and then easily communicate it to the other coaches and players.”
The system allows clubs to accurately monitor the physical performance of their players in real-time, collecting data on metrics such as distance covered, speed, acceleration, deceleration, and high-intensity efforts.
This data is then analysed using STATSports’ advanced data analysis software where coaches and medical staff gain insights into player performance and improve player welfare. This can be done live in-session with our Sonra Live iPad & Sonra Watch technology, where coaches can take immediate decisions on player performance and welfare.
The ability to track accurately live allows coaches to monitor group and individual thresholds, using an RAG (Red/Amber/Green) system, meaning the squad is sufficiently loaded.
Post-session, coaches can download the data at rapid speeds and delve deeper into the data to identify trends across much larger data sets.
As part of the agreement, Club Brugge will boast STATSports’ fixed infrastructure at their training ground Belfius Basecamp as well as at Jan Breydel Stadium, which will allow coaches to seamlessly track players wherever they are performing.
Robb added:
“Integrating STATSports’ technology into the training ground and stadium means we can monitor everything the players are doing physically in training and on matchday. As coaches and analysts, this makes our lives so much easier and allows us to concentrate on other tasks. Their support staff are also tremendous and always on call, which gives us extra peace of mind,”
STATSports COO and co-founder, Sean O’Connor, was delighted to add another Belgian football giant:
“Given the Royal Belgian Football Association, and a host of top Pro League clubs are already STATSports clients, it gives us tremendous pleasure to add Club Brugge KV. They’re a household name in Belgian and European football. We feel that, alongside our cutting-edge technology, and their progressive stature as a club, we can make great strides together in the football performance arena.”
